Up too Cheviot and rail tunnel, fantastic make sure u take it all in and climb to the top of tunnel on Molesworth end, before a fabulous downhill run. Branched of to head for Alexander for the stay in caravan park, excellent cabin. Great view of Alex and surrounding area. And good downhill run into town. 79k's ridden for the day.

Cheviot Tunnel (Yea) All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go

Embedded with history as rich as its red clay bricks, the Cheviot Tunnel tells a tale of trials, tragedy and triumph. Situated about halfway between Yea and Molesworth on the Tallarook - Mansfield Rail Line, the tunnel was constructed between the years of 1887 - 1889, allowing trains to pass across the Black Range at McLoughlin's Gap.

Located midway between Yea and Molesworth, the Cheviot Tunnel is the longest rail trail tunnel in Victoria and a key feature of the original Tallarook to Mansfield Railway Line. Cheviot Station opened with the rail line in 1889 and was an important station to serve the local logging industry.

The historic Cheviot Rail Tunnel is located centrally between Molesworth and Yea (3.6km from the old Cheviot Railway Station) and is a key feature of the former Tallarook to Mansfield Rail Line which is now a tourist route for hikers and cyclists called the Great Victorian Rail Trail. You can walk or cycle through the 150m tunnel.
